Biography

John F. McDonald is Emeritus Professor of Economics, University of Illinois Chicago and Gerald W. Fogelson Distinguished Professor of Real Estate Emeritus, Roosevelt University. He was born in Decatur, Illinois in 1943, and earned his BA at Grinnell College in 1965, and PhD in Economics at Yale University in 1971.... read moreHe joined the UIC faculty in that same year. At UIC he served as a Department Head, Senior Associate Dean, and Interim Dean in the College of Business Administration. He moved to Roosevelt University in 2009 and retired in 2013. John is author of 13 books, including Urban Economics and Real Estate (with Daniel McMillen), Chicago: An economic History, Postwar Urban America, and Rethinking Macroeconomics. He was elected a Fellow of the Regional Science Association International in 2008 and was awarded the David Ricardo Medal by the American Real Estate Society in 2013.
