Biography

Michael Rowbotham is a Professor of Clinical Neurology and Anesthesia at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a renowned expert in the pathophysiology, management and treatment of neuropathic pain disorders. In addition to directing the PCRC, he also serves as Associate Director of the UCSF Pain Management Center at Mount Zion. Rowbotham earned his medical degree from UCSF, where he also completed a research fellowship in psychopharmacology and neurology fellowship in pain research as well as a residency in neurology and internship in medicine. He completed a residency in neurology at Boston University. In addition to caring for patients, Rowbotham is an active researcher studying the common neuropathic pain syndrome, called post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).
